Első rész: Cornides értekezése történeti források alapján a magyarok istenhitéről, esetleges kereszténységük nyomairól és pogány szokásaikról.
A második rész Engel vitairata, filozófiai módszerekkel, történeti-filológiai forráskritikával és nyelvészeti érvekkel közelíti a témát. Az Ázsiában maradt magyarok nyomát kutatja, akiket elsöpört a tatárjárás. Nyelvészetileg a finn–vogul nyelvi hasonlóság híve.
