Melchior Cano (1509–1560) spanyol hittudós, a valladolidi és
salamancai kollégiumok rektoraként működött. A jezsuiták heves
ellenfele volt, rendi testvérével, Carranzával folytatott viszálykodása
is sok ellenséget szerzett neki. Hittudósi érdemei azonban
vitathatatlanok, Victoria Ferenc tanítványa volt, s mesterének
elveit tovább fejtve „Loci Theologici” (Salamanca, 1536) című
művében páratlan elmével és átfogó képességével teremtette meg
az első nagyszabású hittudományi módszertant és vetette meg a
tudományos hitvédelemtan alapjait. Árverésünkön szereplő munkája
tartalmazza ezen művének egy késői kiadását.
Dúsan aranyozott gerincű korabeli egészbőr kötésben. Megkímélt állapotú, szép példány.
