A szerző híres angol orvos volt, 1815-ben kétszer is járt Magyarországon. Úti élményeit és tapasztalatait írja le e munkában, amelyben egy rövid történeti áttekintés mellett külön foglalkozik az ország irodalmi, politikai és gazdasági viszonyaival is. Az acélmetszeteken látható: Bát, Nyitra, Selmecbánya, Körmöcbánya, egy felvidéki ezüstbánya, Vác, Pest és Buda, a Balaton Keszthelynél, Varasd és Pécs. A két térképet Lipszky után Hall készítette. Enyhén sérült gerincű, korabeli félbőr-kötésben. Szántai: Bright 1-2.
