Ez a legendává vált könyv a tudományos élettől elszigetelten élő Bolyai Farkas matematikai rendszerelméletét tartalmazza, melyben feltünteti önálló eredményeit,definícióit,bizonyításait.A második kötet végén található az "Appendix", a szerző fiának Bolyai Jánosnak világhírűvé vált munkája. " A tér abszolút igaz tudománya:függetlenül Euklides XI.( a priori soha el nem dönthető)axiómájának igaz vagy nem igaz voltától. Hozzá csatolva nem igaz esetében a kör geometriai négyszögesítése."A geometria tudományában forradalmi felfedezést sokáig K.F.Gauss német matematikus,csillagász munkájának hitte a kortárs tudományos közélet.
