Göttingen, 1824. Dieterischen Buchhandlung. 1 rézm. címlap, XVI., 559 p., VIII. Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752–1840) Jénában, majd Göttingenben tanult. Ugyanott lett professzor is. Az antropológia megalapítója, egyben az első összehasonlító anatómiai munka szerzője. Vitalista felfogású volt. A koponyacsontokon végzett kutatásai alapvető jelentőségűek voltak. Tőle származik a rasszok (kaukázusi, mongol, etióp, amerikai és maláj embertípusok megkülönböztetése) tana. Árverésünkön fő műve szerepel, mely több nyelven is számos kiadást ért meg. Korabeli papírkötésben, a gerincen aranyozott címkével.
