A representative volume decorated with lithographs, one of the most beautiful pieces of Hungarian book publishing. It was also issued in German and French. According to the author’s intention, the work served an important political and public role. As an aristocrat mindful of the nation’s uplift—similarly to Count Manó Andrássy – his aim was to maintain and strengthen national consciousness after the lost War of Independence. The coloured plates depict, among others, a melon vendor in Pest, a tinkerman, vintage, market and hunting scenes, a wedding procession, as well as a “lacikonyha” (street kitchen). Although the foreign-language editions occasionally appear, in Hungarian it is extremely rare. The last complete copy was auctioned about 20 years ago. Moreover, this copy features an almost unknown binding variant.
