Barclay, John (1582-1621) latin nyelvű skót író, költő. Fő műve jelen tételünk, amely politikai kulcsregénynek tekinthető, alakjai között Bethlen Gábor erdélyi fejedelem is szerepel. Korának egyik legnépszerűbb, legolvasottabb regénye.
Példányunk alsó szélén a 470. laptól kisebb vízfoltnyom erősödik. A címképmetszet alul szúrágta. A címlap közepén sérülés, papírpótlást kapott. A 355-360. lapok is kicsit sérültek.
Korabeli, aranyozott gerincű egészbőr-kötésben, a gerinc alsó része sérült.
