Ballagi Géza (1851–1907) történész, jogtudós, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia tagja. Az újkori, elsősorban XIX. századi magyar történelemmel, a nemzeti állam kialakulásával, az ehhez szükséges jog- és államtudományi oktatás történetével, a reformkort megelőző időszak politikai röpiratirodalmával foglalkozott. E munkáját a legfontosabbként tartják számon.
