A kötetet illusztráló egész oldalas, feliratos hártyapapírral védett fametszeteket Gustave Doré rajzai nyomán Pannemaker, Pisan, Sargent, Dumont, Gauchard, Hildibrand, Piaud és más művészek metszették. Ezekkel az illusztrációkkal ez a mű első kiadása. A szövegoldalak néhol kissé foltosak (foxing).
