A felvétel Ellinger Ed[e] pesti műhelyében [1873 körül] készült, mérete: 144x96 mm, a műterem feliratozott kartonjára ragasztva. A kép alján az író saját kezű, ajándékozó soraival: „Nagy Gábor úrnak nagy [?] emlékül, Jókai Mór”. A kézírás az évek folyamán megfakult. A fénykép hátoldalán a dedikáció címzettjét méltató, Marosvásárhelyen, 1874-ben kelt kézírásos sorok. Korabeli, kopottas üvegezett keretben.
