Paris, 1589. Franciscus Guessier. 20 sztl. lev., 818. p., 10 sztl. lev. Amikor 1531-ben a milánói humanista és jogászprofesszor, Andrea Alciatus (1492–1550) megjelentette Emblematum Liber c. művét, senki sem gondolta, hogy a szerző műfajt teremtett. A szállóige (inscriptio), a kép (pictura) és a magyarázó szöveg (subscriptio) hármas egységét azóta emblematának nevezik. A mű első kiadásában 98 fametszet szerepelt. Az első francia kiadás 1542-ben jelent meg Párizsban, a francia humanista, Claudius Minotius (Claude Mignault) gondozásában. Ekkor Jean Jollet 86 új fametszettel bővítette a művet. Kötetünk a francia változat ún. „kritikai” kiadása, összesen 210 (több helyütt tévesen 213-0nak számozott) fametszetes szimbólumrajzzal. XVII. század végi pergamenkötésben, a gerincen tussal írt címfelirattal. Jó állapotú példány.
