Ganz Beschreibung

(Augusta Vindelicorum, 1502. Johannes Otmar, expensis Johannis Schönsperger.) (452)p. With one fine woodcut initial, rubricated in red and blue. Two leaves blank.
Bound with:
Pomerium de sanctis. fratris ~ ordinis sancti Francisci
(Augusta Vindelicorum, 1502. Johannes Otmar, expensis Johannis Schönsperger.) (620)p. Two leaves blank.
Bound with:
Pomerium quadragesimale. fratris ~ ordinis sancti Francisci
(Augusta Vindelicorum, 1502.
Johannes Otmar, expensis Johannis Schönsperger.) (188)p.
A complete set of the three parts of Pelbart’s Pomerium, in its sixth edition (see no. 451 for description of the work). Each title-page is illustrated with the famous woodcut depicting Pelbart writing at his desk in an orchard, with the symbols of the Four Evangelists in the corners. The illustrations appear only in this edition, among the earliest examples of the white-line woodcut, a technique developed in Switzerland around 1500 (its chief exponent Urs Graf). The Augsburg printer Johann Schönsperger, famed for the high quality of his earlier output, here issued the works at his own expense.
Restored, blind-stamped, contemporary leather over wooden boards. The two covers differently decorated: both divided by quadruple fillets, the compartments filled with rosettes and vegetal stamps (rear), and rhomboid and vegetal stamps (front). Upper border lettered with the title, central panel with mandorla motif. Brass centre- and corner-pieces and clasps are later reconstructions imitating period fittings. One leaf stained, otherwise a clean, wide-margined copy.
RMK III 105., 104., 106., VD 16 P 1181., P 1166., P 1194., BNH Cat P 233., P 218., P 248., Borda MM5: 29A., 29C., 29B.
