Scarce and important early map of Scandinavia by Olaus Magnus. Cartographically based on the cartographer’s previous, 9-sheet regional map — issued in Venice, in 1539 — and published in „Historia Olai Magni Gothi archiepiscopi Upsalensis, de gentium Septentrionalium”. The woodblocks were prepared by the Swiss Thomas Weber, whose initials can be found in the lower right corner. Olaus Magnus applied the results of his own researches made during his journey across Lappland between 1518 and 1519. Our item is from the first Basel edition (in Latin). Dimensions: 385 x 525 mm. Fine, clear copy.
