A szerző (1511-1575) holland polihisztor (orvos, történész, klasszika-filológus, lexikonszerkesztő, fordító stb.) egyetemi tanár, rektor volt.
Munkakapcsolata volt a magyar Zsámboki Jánossal, az antwerpeni Plantin nyomdánál, amely a XVI. században az emblémairodalomra szakosodott, egy év különbséggel (1564-ben és 1565-ben) adták ki Emblematáikat.
Nagyon ritka, külföldi árveréseken sem találtuk.
Modern, bordázott gerincű félbőr kötésben.
