A verse account of an actual event. On June 2, 1817, in the cathedral of Eger, a mentally disturbed lay official, József Réthy, attacked the chanting canons and struck György Mészáros so severely that he died five days later. As with the author’s other works, this piece is extremely rare, we have found no record of its appearance at auction. Of particular interest is the naive copperplate engraving, also by Berei.
Contemporary half cloth.
