Ganz Beschreibung

The recipient was presumably Sándor Mednyánszky. Vámbéry reports that he will travel to London in March the following year and intends to lecture in several cities. He hopes Mednyánszky will not leave for “Olaszhon” (Italy) so that they may meet. He is working on his linguistic experiences: “You laugh, don’t you? But you see, I must write this, for otherwise the world calls me an adventurer – and I cannot, must not, accept that title.” Once finished, he does not plan to remain in Pest. He conveys greetings from Mór Jókai, who asks that Vukovics continue his series of articles. The reference is to a piece published under the initials “V. S.” in A Hon (28 September 1865), edited by Jókai, with no continuation found. Vámbéry apologises for the poor quality of the enclosed photograph. In his memoirs he wrote that from 1868 onwards he visited the cities mentioned.
4 written page(s), with monogrammed letterhead. Dated: Pest, 27 November 1865.
