Kötetünk brit (és protestáns) szempontból vázolja Dél-Amerika történelmét, eredeti indián lakosságának néprajzát, függetlenségi törekvéseit, világi és vallási kultúráját. A tanulmány elfogultság nélkül próbálja vizsgálni a spanyol gyarmatosítók tetteit, az őslakosok hagyományos és megújult kultúráját, végül választ keres arra a kérdésre, hogy milyen kihívások előtt áll a kontinens. Példányunkból a térkép hiányzik.
