Jaillot, Alexis-Hubert: Amerique Meridionale divisée en ses Principales Parties...
Map of South America published in “L’Atlas Francois” by Alexis Huber Jaillot in 1719. Based on Nicolas Sanson’s map. The coastline is accurately mapped but depicts the Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) as an island with several rivers. In the mainland, some mythical representations are also shown. The most striking of these are La Plata, derived from the “Lago de los Xarayes”, and the feather-like branch of the Amazon River. Lake Parime, which appeared in previous releases, had already been left out, but Manoa (aka El Dorado) is still listed.
Original outline colour. With slight discolouration along the centrefold.
